Woooohoooo! I joined an illustration contest for McSweeney's (a veeeery cool publisher). We all where given a book we had to fill with our work, and than on the day of the jury, we had to finish the cover. Real-life-action working and being judged on the same time... makes you pee your pants! which luckily I didn't.

This was my cover:

It's a story about a man who wakes up having way too long arms and legs, which puts him in very awkward situations. So that explains the title... Unfortunately I didn't win, the one who won really deserved it, though it was a looooot of fun to do!

A little while ago photographer Joost van der Neut asked me if i could edit a photoshoot he had done in NYC. One of the goals was to make the model look unrecognicable... and so i did... these are some results i did with them:

And i just had to share these following pictures with you, it's when i began to have a lot of fun with my scanner, as i transformed her into a totally new species. Some photo's even became quite freaky.....

But finally it became something completely different, you can see the real end result on the website of the photographer.

I'm very proud to show you all a logo i made for a really cool booking agency called FCX of a good friend of mine.
And the logo hasn't been quiet in de meantime. It had a little evolution, because now its moving and making sound! The movements is the work of the icelandic supergenius Ninna Þórarinsdóttir and the sound is made by the fantastic 'Classic Brothers', who make really good music by the way.

As you can see this very famous dog stood model for the invitation flyer I made in collaboration with Marieke Berghuis.

The reason of the flyer was a 10 years anniversairy of our friends (Wouter & Sophie), and we decided their pets (the byproduct of being 10 years together) where predestined to be the theme of the party obviously!

Okay this is my dream that I want to come true, Micky D going Green....
I silkscreenprinted fabric and with that i remade the Happy Meal, so it now it is really happy.

Before that i did lots of tests with different brands that are most unlikely to ever go green. I think the ecological bussines (almost always) has an awful taste in design and looks, so mixing it with luxurious brands or cheap fast food symbols gets two extremes together.

Its the Love Issue, so we made this editorial be about the dramatic side effects of love... The scenery is half being on theatre, half being backstage. I did styling for this photoshoot, which i used for my exhibition.
It was really hard to style because the pr-agencys wouldnt lend out their clothing.... I only managed to get the iron shoulder-pads from.... daryl van wouw (the first pritty thing he ever made in my opinion)
But yet i like the outcome =)

And I DID THE POST-PRODUCTION, NOT JOOST (i urgently had to say from him)

It was sooo nice they had this reeeealy cool outfits from Yves Saint Laurent that we had to wear. The shoes where the best... although you dont see them AT ALL in the pictures.

During my internship I worked almost ALL of my time on the IDTV identity together with two other graphic designers. Although the proces was though, the endresult is rather nice; check it out on www.idtv.nl and it won prices woohoo!!

Naast de eervolle vermelding bij de Nederlandse Designprijzen, heeft ontwerpbureau Lava voor de huisstijl van IDTV een internationale prijs ontvangen. Bij de 54e Type Directors Club Awards in New York ontvangt Lava het Certificate of Typographic Excellence in de categorie Corporate Identity. De huisstijl wordt opgenomen in het jaarboek en wordt tentoongesteld op een rondreizende expositie in New York, Canada, Engeland, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Japan, Rusland en Spanje.

During one of my classes last year I really felt the urge to ask my most beloved, weird and most inventive teacher ever Gert Dumbar (my final exam-coach) the following question: 'I have a HUGE problem with getting to start to work, I always get distracted by silly small things that are totally NOT important'.
He answered me with ''get a good piece of paper and a big black pen, and write down the following words: 'CUT THE CRAP' And hang this piece of paper above your bed...''

And so i followed his wise advice...
Though the piece of paper became a piece of girl.
And its not hanging above my bed anymore... this maybe explains a lot... have to get it back!
